ABOUT US
WHO WE ARE
FOMOE — Friends of Mangochi Orphans Education is a UK-based charity that raises funds and recruits volunteers to educate orphans and vulnerable children who attend MOET School in Mangochi, a small town in Malawi, Africa.

Vision
Our vision is to create a brighter future for Mangochi orphans by giving them access to quality education. We believe every child deserves a chance to learn and grow, and we strive to make this possible by partnering with local organizations and benefactors around the world.
Mission
Our mission is to bring efforts together in a coordinated way and help put the school on a more secure financial footing by widening the donor base. This should enable MOET School to continue doing its good work and develop new initiatives to enhance the future of its pupils and their communities.
Our Story
In early 2010, Friends of Mangochi Orphans Education (FOMOE) was registered as a UK charity dedicated to educating some of the most disadvantaged children in Mangochi, Malawi. FOMOE was established to coordinate fundraising efforts for MOET School, strengthen its financial stability, and expand its donor base. This support enables MOET not only to continue its vital work but also to develop new initiatives that enhance the lives and futures of its students and the communities they belong to.
Today, FOMOE continues to support MOET School by funding primary education, covering secondary school fees, and even supporting students through university. The FOMOE team ensures that every pound raised goes directly to the school to support these students, avoiding third-party fees or fund diversion. As a registered UK charity, we maintain audited financial accounts, conduct regular trustee meetings, and submit annual reports to ensure full transparency.

MOET School Story
With funding from the four founding members, MOET School was founded in 1999 by Patterson Majonanga, a retired headmaster who recognized the lack of educational opportunities for orphans in Mangochi. Initially, the school started with just 10 orphans studying under a grass shelter, but it has since grown to serve over 400 primary school students, 30 secondary school students, and more than 10 university students—a remarkable achievement for FOMOE, considering that less than 1% of students in Malawi pursue tertiary education.
Although it has grown, MOET is still small enough to be managed by a small team in Mangochi, and it provides excellent pastoral care as well as a funded all-round education from primary through to secondary and tertiary level.
