As we wrap up the year, we’re happy to share some highlights from MOET School in Mangochi, Malawi. It’s been a month full of challenges, achievements, and meaningful moments.

🍲 School Meals: A Challenge Worth Fighting For

MOET School sustains feeding initiative as a way of enabling school provision to children who may not have access to food in the morning when they report for classes.

It is also deliberately implemented to motivate the future citizens into education so that they get used to remain at school until they reap the benefits of attaining some academic and professional excellence.

End of 2024 and early 2025 are anticipated to be tough times for sustaining school feeding due to shortage of food sources as well as frequent rise in the cost of commodities including food items due to the depreciation of the Malawi Kwacha.

During the month, MOET already faced challenges in replenishing food reserves in line with the planned budget. In the photo below, MOET teachers and administrative staff are involved in the distribution exercise to make sure that pupils get equal share for everyone, enough to keep the body and the soul together.

🗣️ English Practice with Our Volunteer

As a way of enhancing fluency in English speaking, MOET Volunteer, Simon Bruchertseifer from Sofia Volunteers in Germany, apart from teaching Mathematics and English, use pupils’ break-time to enhance interaction among them using the English language.

This was decided to promote fluency, sharing of knowledge and intelligence among them. The system has since transformed the school into an English speaking environment as pupils also try their best to interact with Simon during this free time.

However, noting that the development is disadvantageous in learning the vernacular language which is Chichewa to him, Simon frequent his engagement with some members of staff to learn the basics of the local language. He is now able to understand and speak some Chichewa. Simon came to MOET in August 2024 and is expected to leave in September, 2025 after completing his One-year stay.

We are sure that by the time he shall be leaving, he will have contributed in the fluent articulation of English in the pupils as well as benefited from the members of staff in the Speaking of Chichewa.

🎄 Holiday Wishes from Our Students

MOET pupils are aware of the generous support and financial contributions that well-wishers do provide to the institution which would otherwise be difficult to sustain its operations without them.

There is a list of such well-wishers who have made remarkable contributions in supporting the day to day operation of the institution. We can display their names here but space will limit us. We can also list them down but likewise the list will be long. We have sampled a few as Friends of MOET, Friends of MOET in England, Linda & Jonathan Haar, Hiep Hool, Mike Filbey and   among many.

MOET Pupils, Management and Staff wish every one of you, a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year!

🏅 Hard working pays outstanding pupils at MOET

As the school term draws to an end once again, and having examined the pupils, some of them performed so well forcing the authorities to present exceptional awards in appreciation of their hard work. Awards presentation is not done to outshine others but rather to motivate their hard working so that they can also get the awards if they work hard. Awards presentation ceremony is therefore arranged to instil the spirit of hardworking and excellence in the pupils. It also signifies that hardworking pays. With this initiative, MOET has experienced the spirit of academic competition among learners. 🎉 MOET school conducts a Christmas and New Year Party before closure of term one.

In the month, after pupils had written their examinations and heard their results, there are always mixed feelings when some who have done well put on smiling faces and those who have not performed well are seen in gloomy faces.

To let those will sad faced become happy again, an end of term farewell party is organized deliberately to create an interactive environment where pupils become joyful and forget their worries. Good food, drinks, songs and dances are the order of the day after which pupils are released to go back home and prepared for the subsequent term.

Below are MOET Pupils displaying their dancing antics during a farewell party.

📦 MOET School closes for end of Term One Holiday

End of first academic term came to an end on 20th December 2024 expecting to have second term opened on 6th January 2025.

It becomes easy for non-boarders to leave the school campus as their belongings stay at home. Unlike boarders, this is another tiring day as pupils get busied up with packing clothes in their luggage and carrying them to their homes.

The lucky one use bicycles, motorcycles with a few using vehicles. We advise pupils not to worry with the hassle of carrying luggage but rather worry if they are not doing well in class.

Happy Holidays!
