First impressions from new volunteer from London – Merry 6th July 2011
I have so far spent two days at the school, learning about how things are done. It strikes me as a really wonderful place, everyone is so positive and happy, and every teacher and student was welcoming to me.
It is currently the post-exam period, the last week of school, and all of the end of year exam papers are being marked. This will also be an important few days for some of the students, as the results will influence who of the older students will be selected to go on to secondary school.
Next week the school will break for the Summer, but Summer School will start, to give the students moving into their final year a headstart.
I have now had a chance to explore the local area, and see that the friendliness and welcoming atmosphere extends beyond the school. I still have a lot to learn – for example I am trying to learn some Chichewa, the local language. Still a long way to go on that front!
Will be in touch again soon!
Merry.
